Short version: ParrotTalk does not create user accounts and stores your test scores only on your own device. When you request AI feedback, your essay or voice recording is sent to our proxy server, which forwards it to Google Gemini for evaluation, then discards it: only your score is kept (90 days). We use Google Analytics 4 to understand traffic, but it only loads if you accept our cookie banner.
ParrotTalk (parrottalk.app) is a free IELTS preparation platform. We provide mock tests, AI-powered writing and speaking feedback, and progress tracking for IELTS candidates worldwide. For data-protection purposes, the data controller is the ParrotTalk publisher identified in our Legal Notice (see §1 of the Legal Notice).
Test scores and progress (stored locally on your device)
Your test scores, band results, and progress data are stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers. You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
Audio recordings (Speaking module)
When you submit a speaking test for AI feedback, your audio recording is transmitted to our Cloudflare Worker (parrottalk-api.foundry8.workers.dev) and forwarded to Google Gemini Flash for evaluation. The audio is used solely for real-time scoring and is not retained by ParrotTalk or stored beyond the evaluation request. Google's privacy policy applies to data processed by Gemini.
Written text (Writing module)
When you request AI feedback on a writing task, your essay text is transmitted to our Cloudflare Worker (parrottalk-api.foundry8.workers.dev) and forwarded to Google Gemini Flash for evaluation. The text is not retained by ParrotTalk beyond the evaluation request.
IP address (anti-abuse, temporary)
Our Cloudflare Worker briefly stores your IP address to enforce a daily usage limit per user (kept about 25 hours) and to track an aggregate monthly cost counter across all users (kept about 31 days, not tied to any individual). This is used solely to prevent abuse and keep the free service sustainable, not for tracking or profiling.
Email address (optional)
If you choose to subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address for the purpose of sending updates about new tests and features. You can unsubscribe at any time. We do not share your email with third parties. The legal basis for this processing is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing.
Legal bases for processing (GDPR)
For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we rely on different legal bases depending on the processing: (i) your consent for the newsletter and for loading analytics cookies; (ii) our legitimate interests in providing and securing the service (for example, transient IP logging and forwarding your essays and recordings to the AI evaluation API at your request); and (iii) compliance with our legal obligations, where applicable (for example, responding to lawful requests from authorities).
Vercel: hosts the ParrotTalk site. Vercel may collect standard server logs (IP addresses, request times) in accordance with their own privacy policy.
Cloudflare: runs the Worker (parrottalk-api.foundry8.workers.dev) that proxies AI evaluation requests and enforces anti-abuse rate limiting.
Google Gemini API (Google LLC): receives your Speaking audio and Writing text to generate AI feedback. This involves an international transfer of data outside the EU/EEA to Google's infrastructure. This processing is governed by Google's own API terms and privacy policy; Google's handling and retention of the data it receives is Google's responsibility, not ParrotTalk's. Where required by data-protection law, these transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
Google Analytics 4 (Measurement ID G-VV4Z9F7SZS): only loads after you accept our cookie banner. Collects standard web-analytics events (page views, approximate location, device/browser type). This involves an international transfer of data to Google in the United States. You can opt out at any time by rejecting or clearing your cookie consent (see §5).
ParrotTalk itself only uses one small localStorage entry (not a cookie) to remember your cookie-consent choice. If you click "Accept" on our cookie banner, Google Analytics 4 is loaded and may set its own cookies to measure traffic. GA4 does not load until you accept. If you click "Reject" or simply ignore the banner, no analytics cookies are set. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser's site data for parrottalk.app; the banner will be shown again on your next visit.

Since ParrotTalk does not maintain a central database of user data, most GDPR rights are exercised directly through your browser rather than through a formal request to us. For anything else, contact us (see §10). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. In France, this is the Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL) (www.cnil.fr).
ParrotTalk is intended for users aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. IELTS is an examination typically taken by adults and older teenagers preparing for academic or professional purposes.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of ParrotTalk after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
